Widely touted as the most value-for-money high-tea in Singapore, the Tea Lounge @ Regent Singapore offers its patrons the longest stretch of afternoon decadence in town, allowing tai-tais, couples, families, gal pals, and the odd hotel guest or two four hours of pigging out from 1pm to 5pm.
We were duly informed that each paying guest could order any two drinks (free-flow) throughout the duration of the high-tea (coffee, tea, chocolate), so gourmet teas and ice-lattes kept us on our toes that afternoon. Apart from the usual cappuccino, latte, mocha, and ice-tea, the Tea Lounge offers guests an extensive gourmet tea menu, which shouldn't be missed if one wants to enhance a hotel high-tea experience with a touch of aromatic fragrance.
First up were some of the savoury dishes on offer from the Asian side of the kitchen, ie; spicy curry scallops, prawns, and crab, along with deep fried spicy salsa chicken wings, soft-shell crabs, and tender juicy succulent chicken satay. Not a bad way to kick off this gastronomical buffet.
The savoury onslaught continued as medium-rare beef wagyu rump slices, coupled with smoked salmon and baked veggies served up the perfect pre-cursor before we hit the desserts and sweet stuff.
Macaroons were soft, not overly sweet, and just perfect enough to ease into loading up on the desserts, which the aternoon high-tea at the Tea Lounge is more famously recognised for.
The Asian delicacies; chicken wings and soft-shell crab surprisingly packed a punch in their flavourful offerting, while the satay was skewered to perfection.
The Japanese side of things; didn't really sample much, although sushi and sashimi can fill one up really quick. Sushi supply was plentiful, fresh, and unceasing in its attraction to the guests
Macaroons delight the soul, and is apparently the flavour of the year. A few of these with scoops of hazelnut or vanilla ice-cream, coupled with freshly-baked waffles is an excellent way to end the buffet on a high note.
